The Best & The Worst Day of My Life (so far)

I don’t want to be THAT blogger who starts off with an apology for such a wait between this post and my most recent. It definitely won’t be the last of such spots of “down-time” that my blog will experience.

I guess I’m starting off like this because I’m apologizing to myself – to my goal of posting a bit more frequently.

I guess I haven’t been able to just sit down to write because I knew exactly what it was that I needed to write and I didn’t want to do it.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that this particular post is more for my self than for anyone who’ll be reading this.

Dear Audrey

Dear Audrey,

Welcome to the world! Your Mommy and I are so happy that you are finally here! You have no idea how many people have been looking forward to this day and all the people who will want to see pictures of you and squeeze your little cheekies and pinch your cute little bum. You are here in a huge, exciting, and beautiful world and surrounded by a big fat loving family who all love you.

Egukayshun!

I‘m so excited to write this post and tell you guys about some of the coolest news that we got this week. It won’t be the COOLEST news, though, because I’ve got a baby being born at any moment. The wifey is 5 days past her due date (Jan 31) and is pretty antsy for our baby girl to hurry up and get here.

Okay okay, so here is the big announcement:

The Fur Child

I wanted to write this post while Mosby is still an only child, before his and our worlds get taken over by the new baby who is on her way any day now.

The Blood Brothers, Part 5: Black Circle

We don’t know what morbidity came into our minds when we began a new Blood Brothers tradition. We had the idea to do something great for each other on our birthdays. That great thing was kidnapping each other. It was something I’ve had a little bit of experience in. As Mark, Ryan, and I planned out the cover story for Johnny’s kidnapping, we realized that we needed to add a cast member to our plot in order to make the plan believable. For this plan, we needed someone special.

It’s Almost Time!

Holy crap, everybody. It is almost time for the baby! Yesterday, Allison and I went out for a drive to go exploring around Livermore. Along the way, we passed a little park off the side of the road. But this park wasn’t just any park – it was a park with a little bridge. And it wasn’t just any bridge – it was the bridge where I got down on one knee and bribed Allison to marry me with a shiny ring. We both thought it would be fitting to take some pictures there, so that is what we did.

That Time I Got Kidnapped, Part 2: Gunpowder, Treason, and Plot

My mind was having trouble processing what was happening. I was being kidnapped… and my own sister was in on it? I mean, Hannah and I didn’t get along very well during, well, pretty much ever until I moved away from home. But I would never have seen this coming.

That Time I Got Kidnapped

The night was dark and stormy. Ok, well it wasn’t actually stormy. It was actually pretty clear, but it was night and it was dark. It was also the winter.

If you are familiar with Canadian winter, you will know that a stormy winter night can be preferable to a not stormy winter night. A calm and clear winter evening in Canada can be a ridiculously beautiful thing – thousands of bright stars, mesmerizing northern lights, and silence so absolute it takes your breath away. But what really takes your breath away is how cold those kinds of nights are.

The Blood Brothers, Part 4: Kinder Surprise.

Pretty much everybody in our little town in Canada has connections to the US, and a significant number of High School graduates go “down to the States” for college. In order to do that, Canadian students prepare for and take the ACT exam that is required for most American schools. Since so many kids from Cardston take it, our High School is a regional hub for the test. Even kids from larger city centers had to travel to our tiny town for the test.

This is how one of those testing sessions went.

The Blood Brothers, Part 3: Physics

Junior High has one more important story to tell. For gym class, Mr. Hogan loaded us in the bus and drove us out to Lion’s Park. The schools of our small town share one football field and good track that is close to the High School. For the next few days, we’d be coming down here to practice funny jumps into piles of sand and belly-flopping huge mattresses.

The guys and I were too cool for that. We asked Mr. Hogan if we could do our own thing as long as we stayed in the park. He grunted something about “free country” and “failure at life” but we took that as an answer in the affirmative.
